¿What does coffee mean to you?

Nutrifitmarbella healthy tips

For many of us, the day doesn’t start until we have coffee. Throughout the centuries, coffee has had a most picturesque history: from being banned in some countries, to being used as a valid reason for a woman to divorce her husband, coffee has been much more than a delicious drink that helps us to be more alert1,2.

Caffeine and concentration1,2:

Be aware of your own response to caffeine. If it causes you nervousness or does not let you sleep, it would be advisable to reduce its consumption. Taking caffeine to increase brain power during the day will not help you much, especially if it then prevents you from getting a good night’s rest. Caffeinated drinks can help you increase concentration, but you should not neglect your diet and depend on caffeine to keep you active throughout the day. Water is always a good option, but you can also drink coffee or tea in moderation.

Remember to stay hydrated and eat properly.

Facts about coffee

The word «coffee» comes from the Arabic word «qahwah al-bun», which means «wine from the grain.» Later, the Turks called it «kahveh», which evolved to «koffie» in Dutch and later to «coffee» in English.

In 1991, the first webcam was invented at Cambridge University to let people know if the coffee pot was full or not. It attracted thousands of people from around the world until the webcam was turned off for good in 2001.

We drink two types of coffee: Arabica and Robusta. Arabica is more popular, but Robusta coffee beans contain twice as much caffeine. They are often used in instant coffee drinks, like our High Protein Iced Coffee!

Rare coffees from around the world.

Kaffeost

This Swedish delicacy is coffee flavored with Leipäjuusto cheese bread. It is a grainy and salty cheese with a thick texture (like halloumi). Many people serve this cheese with their coffee or pour chunks into the cup. This causes fats, oils and salts to be released into the coffee, thus making it a salty beverage.

Kopi Gu Yu

This is Singapore’s answer to Bulletproof Coffee. It is also common in Malaysia and Thailand. It literally means «coffee butter». After roasting and preparing, this coffee is usually poured over condensed milk (at the bottom of the cup) and topped with a piece of butter before drinking. People in these countries find that butter and condensed milk help make coffee taste more intense and dynamic.

Scandinavian coffee with egg

Many Lutheran families in Norway and Sweden make this type of coffee. It is also very popular in many church gatherings in the American Midwest, since it is very quick to prepare and can be made in large quantities for social gatherings. It is made by mixing a raw egg with ground coffee before preparing it with cold water. The mixture is strained and served very hot or with ice. Coffee with eggs is considered to have a more intense flavor, without bitterness or acidity.
