Vitamins and minerals

Vitamins and minerals are essential micronutrients that are necessary for many of the chemical reactions that the body goes through each day. Many minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, also have structural functions in the body.

In the School of Healthy Eating that we offer free online every week, we talk about this and other very interesting topics.

However, the body cannot synthesize all the vitamins and minerals it needs to function optimally; hence the great importance of a healthy diet.

A balanced diet helps provide essential vitamins and minerals, but it can be difficult to consume all the necessary nutrients simply through food. Daily supplements with vitamins and minerals can help you reach your target values for each, every day.

So what should I eat?

Most of the foods you eat will provide you with some essential minerals and vitamins. It is worth mentioning foods that are especially rich in nutrients such as fruit, vegetables and cereals. Each nutrient has a different use in the body, so each person can benefit from increased consumption of different vitamins or minerals.

Spinach is rich in vitamins C and E, which contribute to the protection of cells against oxidative damage, while phosphorus and calcium in milk, yogurt and seeds contribute to the maintenance of bones under normal conditions. The B vitamins help the body convert food into fuel and vitamin K contributes to normal blood clotting and the maintenance of normal bones.
